Care for Small Breeds
Dogs of similar size and temperament get along better, creating a more relaxed and harmonious environment. We only accept small breeds up to 12kg, preferably over 3 years old. All dogs must be neutered, fully vaccinated and regularly treated against parasites.
Why Choose Us?
Connie's Canine Care is a small, family-run boarding home in Leigh catering specifically for small dogs.
We provide a safe, loving and nurturing environment for all of the dogs in our care.
We welcome dogs into our home, to be a part of our family and become best friends with our resident floof, Milo.
All dogs must be fully vaccinated, regularly treated against parasites using vet prescribed products and be neutered (we don't accept dogs who have been chemically castrated).
We care for a maximum of three dogs at a time - this includes Milo - to ensure each one receives the attention they need. Your dog must be well-socialised and display good manners. We prefer dogs over 3-years old, as they are typically past the lively puppy stage, helping maintain a calm and harmonious atmosphere for everyone.
Every dog in our care will enjoy an enriching experience designed to engage their senses and support their well-being. Our activities include stimulating options like snuffle mats and puzzle toys, which challenge their minds, as well as scent work to engage their natural instincts. Dogs can enjoy free play for exploration, structured on-lead and off-lead exercise for physical and mental stimulation, and supervised garden play for a safe, outdoor experience. Socialisation opportunities are also provided, ensuring a balanced mix of fun, learning, and companionship in a home-from-home environment.
There's always opportunities for relaxing and naps, with plenty of cuddles.
As we provide boarding for multiple dogs, we regret that we can't accept dogs who only sleep on the owners bed. Your dog must be comfortable being separated from people during the night.

About Us
I'm Sam and I'm the main caregiver here at Connie's Canine Care.
I moved from a 20+ years career in retail in 2016 to start caring for dogs. Since then, I have operated a local franchise boarding business and in 2021 opened up Connie's Canine Care providing dog walking & sitting. In 2023, I branched out into home boarding and I'm really proud to have been awarded a 5-Star license with Wigan Council.
Dogs are my passion - and I am always learning - I am trained in Canine Nutrition and have undergone courses in canine communication, behaviour, joint disease, preventative health, common illnesses and emergencies and canine drugs and supplements. I am also trained in Canine First Aid.
I am currently studying an OFQUAL Level 3 award in Canine Care, Behaviour and Welfare.
Milo, pictured here, is top dog and chief guest greeter - he ensures all of our guests are happy and kept entertained.
Part of the 'behind-the-scenes' team is my husband Lee, and our daughters, Chloe and Megan.

Additional Fees and Info
-
Are you licensed?Absolutely. Anyone providing dog care not in the dog's usual place of residence, requires a license by law. We are proud to hold a 5-star license issued by Wigan Council - AAL0154
-
Where are you based? We are based in Leigh, within the Wigan Borough.
-
Do you accept unneutered dogs? No, all dogs staying with us must be neutered. We do not accept dogs who have been chemically castrated. Although we have been asked many times, we will not make any exceptions.
-
My dog isn't vaccinated, can they still stay with you?Licensing regulations stipulate that all dogs must be vaccinated and up to date with boosters for core vaccines, which includes DHP (canine distemper) and L2 (Leptospirosis). Whilst titre testing is available for DHP, it is not available for leptospirosis, so unfortunately, if your dog isn't vaccinated, we are unable to accommodate. As a boarding requirement, we ask that your dog also receives the KC vaccination - this helps to protect against Kennel Cough, which is highly contagious and has been known to affect humans. It must also be noted that the DHP and KC vaccines are live and shedding of the vaccine occurs, therefore, we have a "wait period" of up to 3 weeks after the vaccinations have been administered before your dog can stay with us.
-
I treat my dog with natural flea treatment, is this OK?No, all dogs must be treated with a vet prescribed product to prevent flea infestations of the dog and the home.
-
Do you accept puppies? No, unfortunately. As much as we love puppies, the feedback we have received from our regular guests is that they would prefer dogs who are out of the playful, bouncy puppy stage - preferably from age 3. However, we may be able to make exceptions in some cases.
-
Do I need to provide anything for my dog's stay?We ask that you provide everything that your dog will need for the duration of their stay, whether that be day care or home boarding. This includes their usual food and treats, bedding, toys and dishes. Dog's will settle a lot better when they have their familiar things around them.
-
What are your drop off and pick up times? You may drop off your dog between 3:30pm and 4pm, and collect them between 9:30am and 10am. You can arrange alternative drop off and collection times at the booking stage, which will be subject to additional charges. The earliest you can drop off is 8am and the latest you can collect is 3pm. Times are strictly by appointment only, we will only hand over one dog at a time - following this procedure keeps safety and security our priority and helps to keep the dogs calm and stress free. Handover is done on the driveway.
-
Can I come to look around your home? No. Safety and security are our top priority, having unfamiliar people in our home can cause distress for our guest dogs as well as creating security risks. Our home has been fully inspected by Wigan Council and meets all safety regulations required.
-
Will you let my dog sleep on your bed?Regrettably, no. For safety reasons as we care for multiple dogs, it isn't possible for all the dogs to share our bed. Additionally, it can trigger some dogs to display signs of aggression if disturbed. For that reason, your dog must be comfortable being separated from people during the night and will either sleep in the living room, or the kitchen. Both are spacious and comfortable and are temperature controlled.
-
Can you accommodate at short notice? If you're registered with us and we have availability, then yes! If you're not registered with us, it is likely that we can't accommodate short-notice bookings due to the processes involved with the trial assessments and paperwork.
-
What if there's an emergency? We have full written procedures for emergency events. You must provide details of at least 2 contacts, who are not on holiday with you, who can exercise decisions on your behalf, or be able to care for your dog if for any reason we are unable to do so.
-
Are you open over Christmas?Day Care closes typically around the 20th December for 2 weeks. We only accept our regular day care attendees and boarders over the festive period for Home Boarding.
-
What happens if I need to cancel my booking? Please refer to the Terms & Conditions of the Service Agreement for our Cancellation policy.
